Duke DPT is proud to announce that Katie Lyn Beasley and Rachel Groff (Class of 2011) have been slated to the APTA’s National Student Assembly Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.  Katie Lyn and Rachel are candidates for the positions of Secretary and Nominating Committee respectively.  Within the APTA, the National Student Assembly serves as the governing body for all PT and PTA students. Numerous Duke students have served on the Assembly in the past, and we hope that Katie Lyn and Rachel will have the opportunity to continue the legacy. Duke DPT wishes both of them the best of luck on this exciting professional endeavor.
 

Congratulations Dr. COOK! - The AAOS Public Relations Oversight Group (PROG) has chosen Dr Cook's review study, The Impact of Glycemic Control and Diabetes Mellitus on Perioperative Outcomes after Total Joint Arthroplastyfor a consumer press release from the July 2009 edition of JBJS. RESEARCH PROGRAMS

 
Faculty in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Division have active research programs in a wide range of topic areas  including: aging, biomechanics, osteoarthritis progression, pediatric muscle disorders, stroke prevention, vestibular rehabilitation, walking recovery after stroke, and women’s health.  Current proposals in development include: clinical trials examining rehabilitation technology and studies examining, implementing guidelines for falls and balance risk assessment, and surgical outcomes in orthopaedics and joint replacement.
 
DPT faculty collaborates with departments throughout the School of Medicine . There are active collaborations with Biomedical Engineering, Cardiovascular Medicine, Cell Biology, Community and Family Medicine, Genomics and Genetics, Immunology and Pulmonary, Neurology, Neuroscience, Orthopaedics, School of Nursing , and Women’s Health.  The Movement Science Lab and Clinic will be a core resource for expanding research collaborations.
