Duke DPT is proud to announce that Katie Lyn Beasley and Rachel Groff (Class of 2011) have been slated to the APTA’s National Student Assembly Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.  Katie Lyn and Rachel are candidates for the positions of Secretary and Nominating Committee respectively.  Within the APTA, the National Student Assembly serves as the governing body for all PT and PTA students. Numerous Duke students have served on the Assembly in the past, and we hope that Katie Lyn and Rachel will have the opportunity to continue the legacy. Duke DPT wishes both of them the best of luck on this exciting professional endeavor.
 

Congratulations Dr. COOK! - The AAOS Public Relations Oversight Group (PROG) has chosen Dr Cook's review study, The Impact of Glycemic Control and Diabetes Mellitus on Perioperative Outcomes after Total Joint Arthroplastyfor a consumer press release from the July 2009 edition of JBJS. New State-of-the-Art Human Gross Anatomy Lab!  In 2008, the Duke University School of Medicine constructed a new, state-of-the-art anatomy lab for anatomy instruction.  The new 7000 square foot facility houses 39 stations, each equipped with a computer for real-time access to on-line materials to enhance laboratory learning, including course materials, digital atlases, anatomy videos, and the internet.  A solid foundation in anatomy is critically important for clinical practice.  At Duke, we continue to place a high value on cadaver-based anatomy as a fundamental part of learning and integrating anatomy content within a clinically meaningful context.  Laboratory dissection promotes humanistic values, and the visual and tactile experience of cadaver dissection in a team-learning environment socializes our students early in their careers to a culture of respect.
