Duke DPT is proud to announce that Katie Lyn Beasley and Rachel Groff (Class of 2011) have been slated to the APTA’s National Student Assembly Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.  Katie Lyn and Rachel are candidates for the positions of Secretary and Nominating Committee respectively.  Within the APTA, the National Student Assembly serves as the governing body for all PT and PTA students. Numerous Duke students have served on the Assembly in the past, and we hope that Katie Lyn and Rachel will have the opportunity to continue the legacy. Duke DPT wishes both of them the best of luck on this exciting professional endeavor.
 

Congratulations Dr. COOK! - The AAOS Public Relations Oversight Group (PROG) has chosen Dr Cook's review study, The Impact of Glycemic Control and Diabetes Mellitus on Perioperative Outcomes after Total Joint Arthroplastyfor a consumer press release from the July 2009 edition of JBJS. MISSION

The mission of the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program is to prepare Doctors of Physical Therapy who, by virtue of their critical thinking ability, clinical skills diagnostic competence, ethical standards and moral character, are recognized experts in the diagnosis and management of neuromusculoskeletal function across the continuum of care, and who will serve their patients as primary clinical care practitioners, promoting the optimum health and function of their clients and society.

By pursuing this mission with vision and integrity, these leaders in the profession will seek to engage the mind, elevate the spirit, and stimulate the highest effort of all who are associated with the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree through education, practice, and research.

 
The mission of Education is to prepare Doctors of Physical Therapy who possess expertise in the diagnosis and management of movement and movement dysfunction, are autonomous practitioners using the best available evidence to promote health and wellness in a culturally diverse society, and exemplify leadership and professionalism by advancing the standards of the profession through continued pursuit of excellence; and to educate an interdisciplinary community of practitioners, scientists, and students who, through innovation and collaboration, will pursue scientific discovery and promote optimal health behavior.
 
The mission of Practice is to promote an integrated (academic & clinical), innovative practice model that improves health status and quality of life through exemplary provision of care based on evidence, knowledge exploration, and promotion of the profession.
 
The mission of Research is to develop high-impact translational research programs in the clinical, basic and social sciences that will advance the practice of physical therapy and improve the physical function, health, and quality of life of our patients.
 
 

VISION STATEMENT

To prepare future leaders for lives of skilled, professional, and community service to foster optimal health and wellness to individuals with neurological, musculoskeletal, and cardiopulmonary dysfunction, and their related limitations in movement throughout the continuum of care by advancing frontiers of practice, contributing boldly to research, and fostering a commitment to life long learning.
